A big thank you to our IT Guru Charlie Colquhoun A leading laboratory tested purchasing a compressor online When a Cambridge based laboratory which specialised in research on insects were looking to buy 2 compressors they benchmarked the prices of the compressors specified by Cambs Compressors online. They use compressors to control the humidity in the incubators. Although initially there was a marked saving in buying the compressors via an online supplier, when the right questions were asked the risk and costs proved too great for them to go through with the purchase. The onsite compressor support is the critical element With many online retailers simply operating as ‘box shippers’ there was almost no support post sale. This meant that the laboratory needed to work directly with the manufacturer, in the event of a fault or failure, in order to get any warranty work authorised. This reason alone was the clincher for the laboratory to complete their sale with Cambs Compressors, as there are multiple benefits of dealing with a single company, who can take responsibility for the whole installation and deal with any issues arising. Mark explains the hidden costs of online compressor purchases Online compressor prices are enticing but the hidden costs are what you need to look out for. In a time where inflation remains an issue and costs continue to rise in business, it’s not unreasonable for customers to seek out the best deal. But when I explain the implications of the online route of supply only, they soon realise it’s a false economy. As suppliers of all the leading brands of compressors, our expertise will identify the best compressor for the specific challenges that customer faces. Our relationship with the compressor manufacturers means we have the relevant information to hand, can quickly liaise with their technical support team and identify an issue. This has to be done onsite, and for many of our customers, in a highly responsive timeframe. When the cost of this possibility is factored in, especially over a 3 year warranty period, the sums of buying ‘drop ship’ compressors online with zero post sales support just doesn’t add up. Charlie has successfully completed the implementation, training and deployment of our new ERP system. Thank you for the company’s successful transition As of the 1st June 2023, Charlie has successfully concluded the transfer of all relevant client data to the new system and provided the necessary support to the team. With our old system in the wings just in case, we’ve moved on with our new ERP and (apart from a couple of teething problems) the whole experience has been relatively painless. We’re now experiencing the efficiency and optimised processes, which means our engineers have greater support when in the field and the internal engineering support team have real-time access to the work undertaken. The ERP is being continuously developed With all of the processes needed to run Cambs Compressors on a single system, it allows our engineers to have all the information they need at a mouse click when on site. Each customers compressed air system profile and history is instantly accessible, making planning visits and responding to issues much more efficient. Nathan Hooker takes on lead role for ERP service support As a time served field engineer, Nathan has adapted brilliantly to the new ERP system. He’s proved a great support to the field based engineers when facing a challenging problem, and can liaise directly with them, any relevant manufacturers information to help trouble shoot. Nathan is often the first point of triage and can supply technical support to both clients and our field engineers. The Cambs Compressors Engineering Team contributed to race day success! Racing at the iconic Donington Park race track, Mathew Mandipira and team mate Joel Arguelles, took first and second place respectively – and here’s what the winning duo say about it: “I wanted to give a huge shout out to Craig, our resident ex-soldier and Cambs Compressor veteran, for his amazing work leading up to race day. We couldn’t have done it without him! Another big shout out goes to Cambs Compressors engineer Alex, who thought he was in for a nice, leisurely bank holiday Monday out at the circuit. Instead, got hit with some heavy mechanical tasks as soon as he arrived to ensure both race cars made it out for qualifying. So I’d also like to send thanks for all of his hard work!” Mathew Mandipira Apprentice sales (and racing driver) When Mathew Mandipira joined the team as Sales Apprentice, he also enrolled several of us into his passion for motorsport. The cost online may be cheaper but often the price you pay is greater Nathan Hooker ERP Service Support “We’re grateful for all the support we receive on and off the track from Mark, Annthea, and all of the employees at Cambs Compressors.” L-R: Joel Arguelles, Gabriel Arguelles, Molly, Mathew Mandipira, Dave Hubbard, Dave’s son-in-law and daughter.
