Greener compressed air system design for Buffalo Logistics

January 8, 2024

As a part of their 'Network to Neutral' project and expanding needs, the logistics environmental champion needed a larger vehicle maintenance workshop – but the brief was very different to the norm.

Recycle as much pipework as possible to ensure we minimise the waste

The CEO and founder of Buffaload, Ross Taylor, is an eco-warrior with a difference, he doesn't protest and shout – he innovates to make whatever they do greener and more environmentally friendly. Which is why his instructions were to 'recycle wherever feasibly possible to do so' in facilitating the expansion of their new vehicle workshop’s compressed air needs. As a result, Cambs Compressors provided a hybrid solution to meet the requirements of this 'green' brief. Having designed and specified the new infrastructure and installed a temporary system running a compressor from the Cambs Compressor hire fleet, the in-house maintenance team set about dismantling and re-purposing the existing pipework. Cambs Compressors then tested and commissioned the new compressed air system.

The recycling of pipes was cost neutral as far as using new pipes as it naturally took a little longer, however it probably made a saving on the disposal of scrap and ensured the Buffaload commitment to a more sustainable way of working is across everything they do.

Probably the greenest logistics fleet you'll see

Buffaload Logistics is a complex collections and cross-docking temperature regulated logistics organisation, with a fleet in excess of 240 vehicles and with storage capacity of 163,600 cubic metres. They have pioneered gas fuelled trucks, diesel free electric fridges and lifting floor double deck trailers. All with the aim to reduce trucks on the road, carbon in the atmosphere and pollution in the air we breathe.
